GANGETIC PLAIN (80 IMAGES)

The fertile Indo-Gangetic Plain comprises most of North Eastern India - stretching from the Punjab in the west of the country and across Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh along the Ganges River to the East. This large region comprises many of India's famous sites - The Golden Temple in Amritsar, The Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Khajuraho and the historic city of Varanasi on the Ganges River.

INDIAN HIMALAYA (68 IMAGES)

The Himalayan region of North India borders Tibet and Nepal and reaches from the Hindu pilgrimage sites of Rishikesh in the lush Himalayan foothills to the Gompas (Buddhist Monasteries) spectacularly set amidst the arid "moonscapes" of Spiti and Ladakh on the Tibetan plateau. The Spiti, Indus and Nubra Valleys of this trans-himalayan zone constitute some of India's most sparsley inhabited and geographically remote regions.

RAJASTHAN (52 IMAGES)

Rajasthan's architectural and cultural heritage is preserved in the numerous forts, palaces, havelis and sacred sites of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pushkar and Jaisalmer as well as their inhabitants' traditional customs and colourful attire. The Rajputs maintained much of the region's cultural independence during the Mughal and British incursions. The Thar Desert, bordering Pakistan, covers much of the West of the state.
